Volunteer FAQs

You can get involved in teaching, care & community program, journalism, veterinary & animal science, information technology projects, sport, law & human right, business internships, and agriculture projects.

You choose how long your placement lasts. Apart from our 2-Week Specials, placements are flexible. Most volunteers go for between one to three months or three to six months

Yes you can combine project, Volunteers/Interns like to work on week days and on weekends visit orphanage or any other placements of your own interest.

You choose when your placement starts and finishes. Placements run all year round. There are no definitive deadlines for application. Please apply as soon as you've decided what you want to do. The earlier the notice, the more we can tailor a program for you. If you decide last minute, do email us or call to see how quickly we can arrange it for you - we sometimes only need a few weeks’ notice.

See the program fee page for details of the cost of the program you are interested in. You will not likely be paid for your work, but you will gain unusual work experience and discover skills you never knew you had - and have a great time

As we are not medical experts we cannot give out official advice - so talk to your doctor, who will be happy to advice on what you may need. Don't let injections put you off - you'll be glad you had them once you are enjoying yourself abroad! Volunteers are advice to get immunization on yellow fever and malaria before coming. www.cdc.gov/travel

Volunteers/interns are welcome between the ages of 17 and 70. Many of our volunteers are between 18 and 30 years old, but a rapidly increasing number of career breakers and retired people are now taking part too. This has led to a stimulating mix of people in all our programs.

No qualifications are necessary - just reasonable spoken English. No TEFL or teaching qualifications are needed for our teaching programs (although you are very welcome if you do happen to have them).

We accept volunteers/Intern from all over the world - in fact we actively recruit in much of Europe and the USA, Canada Australia and New Zealand. We like to have a multinational mix because we believe that's what cultural exchange is all about.

The program is an excellent opportunity to combine adventurous foreign travel with a worthwhile job. As well as gaining experience that looks brilliant on your CV, you will improve your transferable skills such as team-working, cross cultures, presentation and communication.

There are numerous flights to Ghana, email us and we will give you a list of very affordable flight from your country into Ghana!

Rucksack: Also a smaller medium sized bag if you wish to do weekend or other traveling trips. There are not many places to buy large rucksacks so would advise a good quality one.

It is optional but those volunteers who do bring them can find them useful especially those who move to the villages and rural areas in the rainy season. Provision would be made to interns/volunteers regarding this anyway.

Laptop, Digital cameras, Torch, lamps, Toilet rolls & soaps, Walking boots-trainers, Candies and Chocolates for children, Sandals, sneakers, a pair of nice shoes, Sunhat, Sun glasses and sun blocker, Watch , Money Pouch, Towels, Insect repellent, Mini First Aid Kit, Beach wear, IPOD, MP3 etc.

We have full-time trained English-speaking staff. It is their job to set up placements, check out your accommodation, meet you at the airport and provide you with any support you need should any problems occur. They won't try to nanny you - but they will always be there, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You also supervise at your place of work from time to time. If you have difficulty teaching in class, if you really want to gain extra experience in a certain area, field or discipline - or whatever the problem or request may be - someone will be on hand to give you help and advice.

Volunteers are met at the airport. Whatever time you arrive, our staff will be at the arrival hall to meet you. There will be a card on which your name will be boldly written. Just watch out for that card at the arrival hall

If you are ill, Together Africa Foundation staff knows where the best medical care can be found. You will receive information on this during your induction when you first arrive, and of course you can reach our staff by phone 24 hours a day if you fall ill.

Yes, depending on visa requirements and flight arrangements. This gives added flexibility. If you want to extend your placement, just talk to our staff.

You will have weekends free. Volunteers often take this opportunity to go on trips to local places of interest. Many volunteers travel extensively after the end of their placements, often forming small groups with other volunteers. Volunteers may even travel up to, neighbouring countries and places of tourism.

You will be located close to other volunteers so that, if you want to, you can meet, exchange ideas and stories, socialize and go on trips with others. Volunteers usually make good friends with each other and often decide to go traveling together after their placements. You will never be isolated. You may even be placed in the same accommodation or workplace as one or two other volunteers. Although we cannot guarantee to meet all requests, please let us know if you have a preference regarding this.

Volunteers stay in our host family house, you must not expect western standards but the accommodation is Almost like one, Volunteer live in secure house where they are have 24/7 internet access, good water, best local and continental dishes, electricity and lovely bang beds. Rooms are share with volunteers.

All of our volunteers have access to Internet. Volunteers will be given phones with a registered sim cards upon arrival with calling minutes

You will be helping our partner organizations and the communities in which you work. Your assistance will benefit local communities who have little as compared to those in the big cities. And most importantly, the people, and the community indicatives aided by our projects will positively benefit from your work.

Yes. Spending time in more than one region can expose you to different languages, projects, and cultures. Together Africa Foundation staffs can recommend projects and help you to arrange a Combination Project Package.

Once the volunteer makes a decision and pays for the program fee, upon receiving receipt of invoice, Together Africa Foundation will make charges for management fees and subscription fees before refund is effected.
